Very recomended

In our hobby, for me the best part is not dealing with glue and tweezer, but when it comes the time to paint and weathering.

Weathering, in particular, is the part that I enjoy more, because it transforms the kit in a wonderful canvas where the modeler can express all his creativity: even a 50 years old kit, with bad details, can resurrect to life when painted and weathered at the best.

So when I saw this new book fully dedicated to the extreme weathering, I was very curious to see what it offers.

I has been not disappointed, because this manual is truly an invaluable resource for any modeler that want to add “personality” to his models trough the weathering process.

Being a fan of the weathering, I know most of the techniques used; and still I found many very useful tricks that were unknown to me too! (i.e. how to obtain a craquelure effect using the different curing time of different brands of paints used in layers).

The book is printed in the big A4 format (for the non European people, this means bigger than the usual 11'' format), on 100 quality glossy paper, with many many pictures of great quality, that describe step by step all the techniques used to obtain a particular effect.

The texts are in 2 languages: Italian and English (original texts are in Italian, but the translations are very good and made by some modeler knowing our “slang”).

The Authors (Vincenzo Lanna- Alessandro Bruschi) presents their weathering techniques trough some wonderful showcases:

  • Semovente da 75/18
  • Stricken 1/35
  • Oshkosh M1070 tractor truck
  • Burned 1/35
  • Sherman M4A3 105 mm
  • Flamenco Beach
  • After the war
  • Abandoned

All the various vehicles are covered, from armors to trucks and cars; as well as any situations: dirty or muddy vehicles, as well as burned or abandoned on the fields.

Being not sponsored by any specific brand of modeling materials, the Authors don't stuck in the use of the materials to a single company, and indeed they will present to you “in action” many different materials of various brands.

Some very useful tips are given also about the diorama bases that come with some of the models.

If you like the weathering, regardless if you are a beginner or an expert, this is a very useful book.
